The Future Campus project volition provide new state of the art teaching, learning and inquiry facilities for students and staff, enhancing the UCD experience. The projection also includes improvements to the public realm, the planting of 978 mature & semi mature tree specimens and an enhanced welcoming mural design.

The Future Campus Stage ane (Phase 1) will exist the first part of the Stephen Holl Architects (SHA) designed campus masterplan to be implemented. The existing woodland walk betwixt Belfield Woods and the R138 entrance will be widened and a new connecting tree line planted, providing a wild animals corridor and an enhanced amenity.  As these new and replacement trees abound and mature, they volition strengthen and densify the existing campus woodlands.

Additionally, two major assiduities spaces will be delivered:

  • The Arrival Plaza: providing a much-needed pedestrian link from the front entrance to the core of the campus.  This entrance plaza combined with the architecture of the Future Campus volition profoundly improve wayfinding on the Belfield Campus.
  • The Ardmore Quad: A loftier quality infinite and landscaped expanse, framed by the Centre for Creativity, the Center for Future Learning and Ardmore Business firm. Electric current Projection Status - July 2021

All planning consents for the project are now in identify, and site landscaping and infrastructure enabling works accept commenced.

These works are essential for the delivery of the buildings and mural improvements and can be summarised every bit follows:

  • Site Clearance Works including tree protection & removal
    • 177 trees will be removed from locations within the site area in accordance with the planning consents for the project
    • Tree protection measures will exist in place to retain designated trees within the site area which volition form key parts of the hereafter landscaped plaza and Ardmore quad
    • Removal of the existing Reception Building and quondam campus bank (AIB)
    • Clearance of the service yard at the rear of the Engineering and Materials Sciences Centre.
  • New and Diverted Campus Utilities and Services
    • The clearance of site includes the removal of existing utilities and services and their diversion outside the footprints of the proposed buildings and whatever planned hereafter campus development.
    • The installation of new services to enable the C4C and CFL buildings including the surrounding landscaping and infrastructure.
    • Utilities chemical compound to house plant supplying existing buildings
    • New electrical switch room and generator enclosure

Current Project Status - Update i (August 2021)

Enabling works for UCD Future Campus Phase ane located in the vicinity of the N11 archway will commence during the week first Monday 9th August.

Throughout this and future phases of enabling works the N11 entrance will remain open however traffic diversions will be in identify to facilitate the scheduled works.

From Mon August 9th vehicular access and circulation routes to the beneath locations volition alter:

  • O'Reilly Hall/University Club
  • Veterinarian Sciences & Infirmary
  • Technology & Materials Scientific discipline Centre
  • John Hume Institute for Global Irish Studies
  • Tierney Building
  • Ardmore Business firm & Annex
  • Car Parks N2 (O'Reilly Hall), N3 (Applied science) and N4 (Tierney)

For this phase of works all vehicular traffic entering the N11 archway must turn left upon entry to campus and proceed to the higher up locations via the new road passing through Automobile Park N3.

Access will be closed for vehicular traffic which normally proceeds direct towards the Tierney Building, and which turns right at the N11 Reception Building towards Car Park N2 upon entering the campus.

Egress arrangements at the N11 archway will too be affected by this phase of the enabling works. The metropolis bound slip route and associated roadways at the N11 entrance will exist airtight and the access route to Car Park N2 volition be reconfigured to a two-way traffic system. Egress from the N2 machine park volition be facilitated by construction of a new get out bespeak onto the existing route at the N11 exit.

Current Project Status - Update 2 (September 2021)

Enabling works for UCD Future Campus Stage 1 located in the vicinity of the N11/R138 archway are continuing. Throughout this and future phases of enabling works, the N11/R138 archway will remain open, with traffic diversions in operation to facilitate the scheduled works.

From Thursday the 30th of September, the electric current arrangement of all traffic entering the campus from the N11/R138 and turning left will change. The section of campus ring road between the left mitt turn at the N11/R138 entrance and the entrance to the N3 (Engineering) motorcar park opposite the N1 (old running track) car park volition be closed, allowing this section of the ring road to close, facilitating its realignment as role of the planned plan of works for Futurity Campus Phase 1.

From Thursday 30th September vehicular traffic entering campus via the N11/R138 entrance and accessing the campus ring road will proceed straight and left onto the newly constructed route through the N3 (Engineering science) car park.

Vehicular traffic exiting campus via the N11/R138 or accessing the N2 auto park from the ring road will also proceed through this newly synthetic road.
Pedestrian paths and crossings will be in identify to facilitate pedestrian movements in the area.

Vehicular traffic accessing the N2 (O'Reilly Hall) car park and associated buildings and routes from the N11/R138 archway will proceed direct and right. The city bound slip road and associated roadways at the N11/R138 archway will remain closed and egress from the N2 car park volition remain as is.

Current Project Condition - Update 3 (October 2021)

Enabling works for UCD Future Campus Phase 1 in the vicinity of the N11/R138 entrance are continuing. Throughout this and future phases of enabling works the N11/R138 entrance volition remain open with traffic diversions in operation to facilitate scheduled works.

From today, Th 28th October, changes to the exit route for vehicular traffic from campus via the N11/R138 entrance and vehicular traffic exiting the N2 (O'Reilly Hall) car park take been implemented. These changes are detailed below:

  • The n/urban center bound traffic slip road has reopened.
  • The temporary slip road connecting motorcar park N2 to the N11/R138 leave has closed. The traffic layout for entering and exiting car park N2 has reverted to its original layout.
  • Traffic exiting campus via the N11/R138 exit must now proceed towards Car Park N2 and take the first right after the pedestrian crossing at the entrance to Car Park N2. From hither, north/metropolis bound traffic can continue via the skid road and s leap traffic tin proceed to the traffic signals at the N11/R138 entrance.

Please note that the through road from the main campus ring road to the Owenstown Park entrance which exits on to Fosters Avenue is open up. Internal traffic calming barriers also remain open at this time.

Current Project Condition - Update 4 (November 2021)

The adjacent stage of enabling works for the UCD Time to come Campus Phase 1 are due to commence shortly.

From Monday 15th Nov, office of automobile park N3 (Engineering) will exist closed, with alternative allow parking bachelor in Car Park N1. A new entrance to the balance of the N3 car park will be provided along with updated line marking and signage. Please follow local signage.

From Monday 22nd November, all parking spaces within car park N4 (AIB/Tierney) will close with the exception of three disabled parking spaces located beside the Tierney Building and 3 Go-Car spaces located at the entrance to the machine park. For the duration of this package of works, circulation routes for pedestrians and motorists to enter, circulate and exit the auto park will be maintained.

Replacement permit, pay & display, and premium pay & brandish parking spaces are available within machine park N1. Alternative EV charging points are bachelor in machine park O2 (to the rear of Belgrove Student Residences). EV spaces closed in motorcar park N4 will be relocated to motorcar park O3 (opposite Merville Pupil Residences) shortly.

On the mornings of Monday 15th, Tuesday 16th and Monday 22nd of Nov a traffic steward will exist on duty to assist motorists in car park N1.

Further cardinal operational updates will be communicated in advance equally the project progresses.

Current Projection Status - Update 5 (Dec 2021)

Please note that from Monday 13th December to Friday 17th Dec inclusive a temporary traffic light system will be in place on the section of campus ring road between car park N1 (sometime running track) and car park N3 (Technology). These arrangements which over the 5-day period will consist of ii sets of lane closures managed by three-way traffic lights are in place to facilitate the installation of services associated with the Eye for Inventiveness and Heart for Future Learning.

The temporary traffic lights shall exist set up then that priority is given to the traffic inbound the campus in the morning time fourth dimension and exiting campus in the evening time via the R138/N11 archway.

Please note during this period that internal traffic barriers are open up and through access to the centre of campus via the Owenstown Park entrance is also open.

Current Project Status - Update 6 (January 2022)

The next phase of enabling works for the UCD Future Campus Phase 1 are due to commence shortly.

From Monday 24th January several paths in the vicinity of the Daedalus Building, Technology and Material Sciences Center, John Hume Institute and Car Park N3 (Engineering) will be airtight with diversions to alternative routes in place to facilitate the installation of building services for the UCD Heart for Inventiveness and the UCD Centre for Future Learning.

From Monday 24th January access to the disabled parking spaces serving the Engineering and Fabric Sciences Centre and the John Hume Found will exist via the master ring route opposite Belfield Firm.

Electric current Project Status - Update 7 (Feb 2022)

From Saturday 5th February a temporary segregated footpath and traffic light system will be in identify on the campus ring road between the entrance to car park N1 (old running track) and the John Hume Institute for Global Irish gaelic Studies.

These works are taking place to facilitate the realignment of the campus ring route and in turn construction of a new roundabout in the vicinity of the N1 and N3 (Engineering) machine parks taking identify equally part of the UCD Futurity Campus projection.

For the duration of this phase of works road traffic on this section of the band route volition be reduced to ane lane with a terminate/go arrangement in place and a section of footpath in the same area will be closed. The area can exist viewed here.

Temporary wayfinding signage and fencing volition be in place in the works area to ensure safe segregation between pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

From Monday seventh February an additional 15 parking spaces inside machine park N3 will exist closed to let installation of building services for the UCD Center for Inventiveness and the UCD Centre for Future Learning. Replacement parking spaces for those decommissioned are available in car park N1.

Electric current Project Status - Update 8 (February 2022)

The next phases of the enabling works for the UCD Future Campus Phase 1 projection will embark on Monday 28th Feb 2022 and will take an impact for all campus users using the R138/N11 entrance to campus.

Equally previously, for the duration these works the N11/R138 archway will remain open. All other campus entrances including Owenstown (off Fosters Artery), Clonskeagh and Newstead also remain open. Internal traffic barriers also remain open currently.

Every bit with previous phases of enabling works, peak fourth dimension delays may be experienced at the R138/N11 entrance. The phasing of these works has been scheduled to maintain continuous ongoing access to the R138/N11 archway and the ongoing accessibility and operation of the campus ring route and auto parks.

Wayfinding signage, realigned pedestrian crossings and a temporary traffic light organisation will be in place. Disabled parking spaces within the works expanse volition be relocated inside the upper level of car park N1.

Additionally, from Monday 7th March the section of woodland walk betwixt the R138/N11 entrance to the upper level of car park N1 will be closed.

Electric current Project Status - Update ten (April 2022)

The next stage of the UCD Future Campus Phase 1 enabling works is scheduled to commence on the morning of Fri 22nd April 2022 and will be in upshot for approximately three weeks.

This stage of works will primarily touch pedestrian and vehicular access and egress to car park N1 (the old running rail) to allow completion of a new roundabout, associated paths and surfaces at the existing entrance to the automobile park. The temporary traffic light arrangement in place on the main campus band road will remain in place for this stage of works.

During this phase in that location will be no modify to access & egress arrangements at the R138/N11 entrance.

Please remember to observe all local signage, route markings and diversions in identify for the duration of these phases of work.

From the morning of Friday 22nd April please note that:

  • All vehicular traffic entering and exiting car park N1 (the old running track) will proceed via a new surface adjacent to the construction zone of the new roundabout.
  • The current vehicular entrance and exit point will be taken into the construction zone.
  • The temporary traffic light in place within the N1 machine park will be relocated to the upper level of the car park to manage traffic flow exiting the machine park and joining the campus ring road.
  • Existing temporary traffic direction arrangements on the campus band road will remain unchanged.
  • The pedestrian entrance and leave to the N1 auto park and the connection to existing pedestrian paths will be segregated from vehicular traffic.
  • The pedestrian entrance and go out to the N1 motorcar park will be via a route adjacent to the woodland walk path.
  • Existing disabled parking spaces in the N1 car park remain attainable and are unaffected by these works.
